Recently a client had a real mess when there payroll subcription had expired and they didn’t renew it.

What most companies don’t know is that when you sign up for Quick books payroll you most of the time you are set up under the auto renew. So each year on your renewal date, Intuit (quickbooks) will place the renewal charges on your credit card.

Sounds good me, right?

Problem for my client was they didn’t update the expiration date of the card with Intuit. When that happens Intuit sends only one email. Like all of us it seems like a solitation and we simply ignore it.

After about a week or so the payroll will still allow you to post checks but won’t let you use direct deposit and the system won’t allow tax or other deduction from occuring. So basically you will be making GROSS paycheck..

The only real way to correct this is to immediate pay for your missing subription. So whenever you see a big red triangle in the payroll second of the home screen, follow the direction to renew.

Hope this saves several minutes of what to do if this should happen to you.

Well depending on who you talk to, the economy is rebounding. Is it?

I guess with this topic it truly doesn’t matter. What I am talking about it hiring.
Hopefully as you read this you will reconsider what we all have had to deal with in the past 25-48 months and
that is hiring workers.

Without a doubt, no companies were bringing on new staff. Most companies were actually doing the reverse, that being
“downsizing”. I guess it came down to staying in business at all or keep all of your staff during those time. With respect to
laid off employees, employers did make the right call by laying of numerous employees.

Now that the economy is slowly coming back, it is time, once again, for those same employers to rehire past employees or
seek that new staff member. If all of us would hire just one person, the positive feeling we could share around the country would
be outstanding.

So now its time to say, “Your Hired!”

So Today I used Quickbooks in high fashion. Meaning, I actually did some work on it.

I must admit that even though I thought it was a glorified Pro version, I did actually like it.
To me, the report functions were certainly different than Pro 2012. The ease of use of the home page
which is similar in all version to Quickbooks desktop versions, was the same here in Premier.

But in all honesty, “I” could justify the cost for my “own” business, compared to Pro 2012.

Did you know that the price is $380ish for Premier and Pro 2012 is like #192. That a big difference.

Wondering what you folks all think. Drop me a line Pro and Premier users.

Quickbooks and Tax time

Wow, today is January 18, 2011 and April 18th is coming up soon. Why do I say April 18th is tax day? This year the IRS has made April 18th the filing deadline. Well to many procrastinators your jumping up and down right? But not so fast.

Start preparing now for this deadline and get your paperwork together. The three days basically falls on a weekend and most tax preparers, bookkeeper and Quickbooks Proadvisors don’t usually like to work on clients file on a stresss filled weekend.

How does Quickbooks bookkeeping help you.

If you were to call our office and say ” I have these 4 shoe boxes filled with my 2010 accounting stuff can you help?” Well certainly, if yo call us well before April 01 and depending on various other factors. One being how well are you organized? 2) Have the other tax years been filed and do you have a copy of those tax returns?

If you are well organized and willing to be helpful with the gathering of all of your documents most tax preparers /bookkeepers are more than will to do the best they can in helping you reach your tax deadline.

Accounting / bookkeeping in Wisconsin and elsewhere.

One of the common we’re asked is: “Can you help someone outside of Wisconsin with our bookkeeping, Accounting and Tax preparation needs? The answer is yes… Truthfully it doesn’t matter what state you are in to have this service performed.

What does matter is if the firm you called has the staff, knowledge, and experience to achieve that customers goals with the bookkeeping and tax preparation needs.

Quickbooks Peachtree and Turbo Tax

Had a client call with a great question that I hadn’t come upon as yet.

Will Intuits Turbo Tax work with Sage’s Peachtree accounting software system. The easy answer is no. After much research and a few phone learned that there is no way in uploading or transferring data from Peachtree to Turbo Tax.

So what should the client alternately do? Roll the data from Peachtree into in Quickbooks Pro 2011 (or similar version) and then you can roll it into Turbo Tax. Now there is a conversion tool which will help bookkeepers and accountants make the transfer much easier. The second issue you may come across is the if you have special accounts in your chart of accountants that QB may not immediately recognize. Get in touch with the Full Circle staff for more information

For more detailed informaiton visit http://www.wisconsinquickbooks.com/ for more up-to-date information on peachtree integration.

A good way to measure your efficiency with QuickBooks is by the number of keystrokesyou use to enter data. Using the shortcut keys is a fast and easy way to enter information, especially for dates. For example, if today’s date was 12/15/02, instead of entering each number separately, you can click in the date field and type the letter “T”. QuickBooks will enter today’s date for you.

“T” stands for “Today”.

“Y” will take you to the first day of the year. “Y” is the first letter in the word “Year”.

“R” will take you to the last day of the year. “R” is the last letter in the word “Year”.

“M” will take you to the first day of the month. “M” is the first letter in the word “Month”.

“H” will take you to the last day of the month. “H” is the last letter in the word “Month”.Another good use of the shortcut keys is to enter the “+” key to move the date forward, and the “-” key to move the day back. Each time you press the “+” or “-” key it moves one day, or if you hold the key down it moves the days very fast for as long as you hold it down.
If you do enter the date by putting in each number, and the date is in the current year, it is not necessary to key the digits for the year. For example, it is not required to key in 12/15/02. The numbers 1215 will suffice. The use of shortcut keys is derived from the old DOS days when that was the only way to function in QuickBooks without using the menu bar. There were no icons. I liken it to riding a Harley Davison. Once you’ve used it, you don’t want to give it up. Below is the complete list of QuickBooks shortcut keys.

Although there is a Mac version, I will speak about the Windows version in general. Quickbooks came out the version called Simple Start which will give you the basics, to get your business running. Simple start can print checks, log bills, watch your sales history, print invoices and even accept credit cards if you want to.

Quickbooks Pro

This is truly the version that you want. It is a step up from Simple Start. But there are some key features that makes life in bookkeeping and accounting alot more easier. Pro version allows creating purchase orders Estimating, and advanced features like tracking costs for assembled products for manufacturers or retailers etc.

Quickbooks Premier Edition

This version has great business planning tools and comes ready for Accountants, notprofit organizations, retailers and contractors. So this is truly a specialty version. The ability to make a great business plan and perform some forecasting with this version can’t be overstated.

Many small businesses just starting out are trying to figure out how to finance there next chapter in there business life. New start-up companies are always thinking of marketing and advertising funds and how to obtain them.

In today’s social media life, that we now have, entrepreneurs to often forget that they have several tools at there finger tips. Sites such as Facebook, Linked-in, Myspace, Youtube etc are all basically free. Most people forget that they can have a personal page and a commercial page. Some family or small businesses have one of each. Nothing wrong with keeping the two sites separate, that’s for sure.

Small Businesses need grants nowadays-Very few if any federal grants are available to individuals, family and small businesses. With this being said, consultants recommend that they contact there local government first to see whats available.

As the economic recovery “continues” the Small Business Administration claims that business grants/loans should be come more plentiful.

So do you research carefully and slowly. Be ready for a long wait and tons of paperwork, of course. If you havn’t had experience with grant/loan applications you should probably ask for help and make sure that your accounting software (i.e. Quickbooks) is up to date with accurate data.
